Florence

florence-travel-guide

In all of my wildest dreams, I never thought I would have had the opportunity and privilege to travel to Florence, Italy. Like What? Who am I? Florence was completely mesmerizing, trendy and breath-taking. Someone please pinch me! It was almost as if I was having an outer body experience. What’s happening here? What am I doing here?  Those were some of the thoughts that triggered my mind to think I didn’t belong here.

Florence was everything that I did not expect, nor did I have expectations. I did not know what to expect. I simply glided over towards the art of the city. From the renaissance art, the architecture, the rich history, the cobblestones houses, to the stylish shops. I mean, everything appeared so iconic.

Everyday, I took one good look at my surroundings from the charming sausage and cheese shop near my Airbnb to the cutest espresso walk-in cafe and the amazing Arno River bridge views. I just meditated my presence. I felt a sense of so much gratitude and appreciativeness.  I was enamored with the city.

My journey in Florence entailed a 3 day stay, wishing I could just live there forever. Florence has been my favorite Italian city thus far. It gave me a sense of a small town vibe with plenty of picturesque views, yet a high end Rodeo-like shopping experience. The town was so thrilling that getting lost was just an opportunity to further explore other towns, non-touristic villages, alley ways, bakeries, shops and restaurants.

One of the most iconic must-see monuments is exploring the Duomo Cattedrale Di Santa de Fiore.  Take a moment to walk around the exterior of the Duomo and appreciate its texture and marble quality textile made with white, pink and green tint shining that is radiating from the sun. It is something to admire.

As you make your way inside, to walk to the top of the Duomo, along the way capture the art and architecture that is presented. Notice the detailed art, the mosaics and the beauty of the structure. Be present in that moment, it is breathtaking. Once reaching the top of the Duomo, feel your presence and mediate the grandeur view of Firenze.

The terra cota Duomo has a pink charming striking castle beauty. Seize the green scenery of perfectly manicured bushes, trees and flora that illuminates from the sun. Detain the view from each angle and immerse yourself in enjoying what the city has to offer.

I followed the next adventure by making my way to visit Piazzale Michalangelo and walking up the Rampe del Poggi stairs, but Piazzale Michalangelo can also be reach from Viale Galileo or Piazza Poggi. There are signs that help identify the way.  Once reaching the top, I encountered a magnificent terrace with major city views.  Bring with you a spread of cheese, meats, and wine to pleasure the evening. There is also conveniently a small outdoor restaurant to buy wine and food to help you set the mood. The atmosphere feels relax and synchronizing harmonious.  Let it fill you with so much contentment and gratitude, that you are there, in that moment, experiencing such beauty.

The infamous Arno River runs under Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Along the bridge, you will observe couples in romantic dates, photographers taking their best shots in catching a glimpse of the moon, individuals appreciating the sunset and others enjoying the river views. If you dare, hop on over the Ponte Santa Trinita bridge, which holds a triangular ledge platform and enjoy a picnic feast while watching the sunset.

Lastly, make sure that you schedule yourself one day to explore the shopping corners of Florence. Have a day walking date and enjoy the restaurants, the trendy shops and the souvenir shops. Get lost in the city, walk into different alley ways and don’t be afraid to stumble upon hidden gems.  Get really lost!

One of my favorite gems was an antique store, Street Doing Vintage Couture, that sold various one of a kind designer items, such as bags, belts, shoes, purses, carry-ons, clothes and so much more. The associate was just charming and courteous. I learned that she had family living in Texas and that she loves living in Florence. And I almost bought a carry-on LV bag.

Lastly, treat yourself to a Florentine steak at La Buchetta Food and Wine Restaurant.

Please share your Florence experience. I would love to hear how you made your vacation or if it is in your bucket list.
